    The obverse is rimmed with the words "THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA: 22 FEBRUARY 1862.  The motto, DEO VINDICE, is on the bottom.  It is Latin for "(With) God (as our) defender/protector".  The center of the obverse features the statue of George Washington on a horse in the capital square at Richmond.  He is surrounded with a wreath made of some of the main agricultural products of the Confederacy: wheat, corn, tobacco, cotton, sugar cane, and rice.

    The reverse is rimmed with the words  "CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA HALF DOL." There is a stars and strips shield in the center of the reverse that is surrounded another wreath made of southern agricultural products.
